About the Artist

Born 1978 to a German mother and father of Indian descent, Ray Rubeque is Frankfurt born and bred, where, after studying graphic design, he has his base as an artist. In Autumn 2008 a working stint in Shanghai found him supervising an animation studio.

He regards pictures as the prime tools in the propagation of his ideas, since a picture conveys more than a thousand words.

Committed to a war on platitudes, his desire to tread new roads in art aesthetics has led him to focus on two-dimensionality in the visual arts, as inspired by the Asian arts that he greatly appreciates.

In addition to the absurd and the scurrilous in all its forms, one of his pet obsessions are faces of all kinds, which has led the depiction of people and the portrayal of creatures of all kind to occupy a central position in his work.
